Güntensperger has once again cleaned up at the World Cheese Awards. There were five awards - two gold and three bronze. We are delighted. It's great proof that we consistently produce at the highest level year after year.
A meeting and exchange of ideas, as well as a showdown of the world's cheesemakers
Between 14 and 17 November 2024, the World Cheese Awards took place in Viseu, Portugal. The WCA take place in a different country every year. This time, thousands of cheeses from almost 50 countries were scrutinised, tasted and evaluated by a jury of over 250 people in the dry, south-westernmost country in Europe. In the end, the public also has a say in which cheeses receive awards. Güntensperger took part with several cheeses in different categories and was once again able to take home several prizes.
Honouring passion and dedication
Our team of almost 60 people works every day to ensure that milk from cow and goat farms with lush Toggenburg pastures becomes the best cheese and ultimately finds its way to our customers and buyers in perfect condition. From the dairy farmers to the transport professionals, the master cheesemakers, the warehouse workers, packaging and dispatch, the office, marketing and other important professionals are all at work with great dedication and perfection. Even though we receive good, positive and constructive feedback on a daily basis, awards like this are something very special for us. They simply motivate us all the more to give our all in the future to be able to put really good cheese on your plate.

This year's award winners are five cheeses, none of which have been honoured for the first time. There are the usual suspects and seemingly devilishly good ‘Roter Teufel’ and ‘Roter Teufel extra’. The ‘Gwitterchäs’ once again thundered in and stood in the flashlight storm of the stage. And our extremely successful experiment, the ‘Trüffelperle’, was also honoured once again. And the ‘Schnebelhorn’ was also honoured for the second time in a row - a very special cheese in terms of its design and for us.

World Cheese Awards soon to be in Switzerland
And here is some really exciting (no longer exclusive) insider information for all cheese lovers. Next year's World Cheese Awards will take place in... Switzerland! It's about time that the contest, which has existed since 1998, finally made its way to the Alpine country that is so iconic for cheese - we think. The Festhalle Bern will be the venue from November 13 to 15, 2025, where delicious cheese and accomplished cheese masters from all over the world will gather. It will once again be a global gathering of people with the same passion, as well as an exciting competition for bronze, silver, gold and super gold.
We are already back at work. Outside on the pastures with a view of the Churfirsten, inside in the birthplaces of cheese steeped in history and also down in the storage cellars, where, with careful care, wheels of cheese are slowly transformed into yellow-brown, matured gold.
And we will of course also be fully involved in the upcoming World Cheese Awards 2025 in Switzerland.
